The design of each plate holds special meaning and represents something within Japanese traditions.

Umezuru/Crane: Cranes have been loved by people as a symbol of longevity. It is a pattern that combines "ume" and "crane" to make you feel the arrival of spring.

Mountain: Mt. Fuji is a sacred mountain in Japan. The mountain is believed to be auspicious place where sacred spiritual power resides. This is a classic and beloved symbol of Japan.

Maro Monnami/Wave: The sea is the source of life. Since the image of a wave is repeated in this motif, it suggests that good things are will be repeated one after another.

Yukiwa/Snow: Snow is a pattern that is been popular not only as a symbol of winter, but as a stylish pattern that creates coolness in summer. It is also believed to represent a message from the heavens of a good harvest in the following year.

Inaho/Rice Grains: Since ancient times, rice has been revered as a god and a giver or life. It is an auspicious pattern that is often used in family crests.

Kihara is a Japanese porcelain company based in Arita. For over 400 years artisans have been using the perfectly white kaolin clay of Arita to create porcelain works of art. Kihara strives to honor that history by uniting traditional craft with modern design and innovation. Every plate is either hand painted or decorated using a pad printing technique. Though the motifs are contemporary, they are all inspired by ancient Japanese traditions and seek to celebrate the beauty of nature. The porcelain is thin yet durable, each piece a testament to the level of mastery these artisans have achieved.

Each plate sold separately.
